As part of Get Online Week, running from 19-25 October, Bendigo Family & Financial Services (BFFS) hosted an online event 0n Thursday 22 October 2020, which looked at the lesser known history of Bendigo with the help of local historian, Darren Wright.

Get Online Week is an international digital inclusion campaign organised by Good Things Foundation, which aims to give everyone the chance to find the support they need to improve their digital skills. If the pandemic has taught us anything, it is how vital digital skills are to our wellbeing and safety. Yet 2.5 million Australians are still not online.

“There are a lot of stories about Bendigo that are seldom told … for example, few people know that Bendigo’s Ordinance Factory fabricated the coin presses that are used by the Australian Mint to this day,” explains Darren.

During the event, Darren used old photos to share some of the more obscure stories about Bendigo’s past, which no doubt surprised and amused everyone who joined the chat.
